Carbon rig

CUL-Masten develops and produces masts made of carbon (carbon fiber, carbon) for yachts and sailboats, both for recreational sailors and the ambitious regatta sailor. The carbon masts are completely designed and manufactured in Germany. Due to the enormous advantages of carbon fiber in weight, strength and restoring force, we manufacture our masts exclusively in carbon. Most fittings and add-on parts are also made from this high-tech material.

Laminate structure

Our production technology enables us to build the laminate individually. The fiber course is specially adapted to the mast. Only high-quality fibers from renowned manufacturers are used. We attach particular importance to high tensile strength and elongation at break. To achieve an outstanding result, it is possible to combine different fibers. We use a high quality epoxy resin, also used in aviation, with GL certified hardener, which has a temperature resistance of over 100°. The carbon fiber mast is usually reinforced up to the main boom especially, to absorb the corresponding forces. The laminate thickness is continuously reduced from the bottom to the top, giving the mast a much lower center of gravity, which significantly improves the sailing performance.

Mast groove, rail, slider...

A special advantage of the CUL carbon masts is the mast groove integrated into the mold. This is incorporated directly into the laminate and saves weight. The shaping results in a V-shaped, inwardly incorporated base for the mast groove and forms a beam as reinforcement. The longitudinal axis receives increased strength compared to an attached rail system and saves costs.

The integrated mast groove guides the mainsail - whether directly with the keder on the sail, with composite mast groove sliders, battened slider systems from Rutgerson, Luffshuttle or the Ballslide™ system from Ronstan. In addition, depending on the customer's requirements, we have the option of placing a conventional track system from (e.g. Harken, Ronstan, Kaver) and attaching it with sliding blocks in the mast groove without weakening the mast with holes. If the mainsail system is changed, the conversion is possible at any time.

Profile sizes

With the help of our wide range of mast profiles, we can manufacture carbon masts for boats and yachts up to a size of about 45 feet. The small profiles are suitable for dinghies, dinghy cruisers, sport boats and daysailers. By individually designing the wall thickness, the profiles can be optimally adapted to the requirements of the boats. We also reduce the wall thickness from the base of the mast to the top in order to save weight in the less stressed upper area of the mast and to bring the center of gravity of the mast further down. Also the tapering of the mast top for perfect optics and weight reduction can be realized.
